(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “It is in the interest of the United States to increase tension between the major players in the region... [and] increase tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia,” Beirut-based security analyst Omar Nashabi said on Sunday.
He also added that the United States is seeking to continue the “state of chaos” and support the “rise of terrorism” in Iraq.
“I think it all goes back to the basic mission, the basic objective and that is the protection of Israel,” Nashabi pointed out.
The United States is trying to protect Israel from the events taking place in the Middle East, he went on to say.
In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has swept the Arab world.
In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the despotic rule of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
In February, another revolution led to the ouster of the US-backed Egyptian ruler Hosni Mubarak following three decades of authoritarian rule.
Other uprisings have erupted in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain.
The United States was the first country to recognize Israel in the United Nations, when it first joined the UN in 1949, and tributes about USD 3 billion in direct foreign assistance to Tel Aviv each year, roughly equivalent to one-fifth of America's total foreign aid budget.
